GOOD SHEPHERD CONVENT, Door no.6-30, Simon Colony, Kodimunai post -629251 K.K. District, Tamil Nadu

Simon Colony is a village in the coastal area of Kanyakumari district, Tamil Nadu. It derives its name from Mrs. Simon whose land was freely given to the people of the locality.
At the request of Rev. Fr. Francis Vincent, the parish priest of Simon colony and after studying the area for the feasibility of our mission, the Province Leadership Team decided to start a convent here. On 26th April 2014, with the permission of the bishop Rt. Rev. Peter Remigius, we opened our second house in this diocese. Our Provincial Sr. Sabina Pathrose along with the Provincal Team was present for the occasion. Srs. Philo Jacob and Lourdu Mary, the first sisters for the new community were welcomed by the parish priest, the neighbouring parish priests and the parish councilors and they were introduced and assured of their support and co-operation. They were given a house near the church that belongs to the parish. On 26th July 2014 the community in Keezhamanakudi was closed and Sr. Arokiammal joined the community in Simon Colony. We are involved in the following ministries:- Education, Health care and Pastoral care.

Education ministry:-
Two of our sisters serve the parish school endeavoring to give quality education to the poor children of the locality.

Health care:-
On 31st July 2014 on our Mother foundress birthday, the Good Shepherd dispensary was blessed and inaugurated by Fr. Francis Vincent our parish priest and Kurumpanai parish priest Fr. Servatius. At present our dispensary is functioning in a rented house and is managed by Sr. Arokiammal.

Patients are treated for minor illnesses and health awareness is given on control of diabetes, hypertension and alcoholism. Counseling is given and for major illness patients are referred to the specialty hospitals.
Pastoral Work
Sisters are involved in the pastoral work of the parish like visiting the families, teaching Catechism and helping out in the liturgical services.

May Jesus the Good Shepherd bless us and guide us to fulfill the dream of our Mother foundress St. Mary Euphrasia to ‘embrace the whole world with love.’
